Rear toe adjuster bars Empty Rear toe adjuster bars

Post  SUZUKI ROCKS 17/07/12, 08:49 pm

I seem to remember a discusion about these http://mcgillmotorsports.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=33
a while ago. Seemed to be in the middle of a totally different thread i think but i cant find it!

Anyway, i want to make a set and wondered if any of you have used them?
If so any info on what lenth the gti needs would be great. Also general feedback on quality and any inprovment over standard.

Also is it a M10 or M12 bolt that holds the originals in place?

Thanks fellas.

I did sugest them a while back but aparently you cant get the right length, you will need 12mm rodends whatever the type, a cheap way to do it is to drill and tap 2 rods or weld some nuts on a thick gauge tubes but both ends r/h thread, get them to the same length centres as a std arm and still use the std cam bolts for adjustment

Oh bugger Sad
What length would we need them to be? I'll call them and see if they can add to the range.

Good idea Gary but i like the idea of dooing away with the standard adjuster bolt and just twisting the bar. Plus i'd probably do a shite job of it anyway Laughing

Instead of putting r/h thread nuts both.end put a left hand thread one one end and use m12 right and left hand thread rose joints one each end

Yeah if i made them myself that how i'de do it but i reckon i'd mess it up Embarassed

Gary, dont suppose you fancy making a batch of these up do ya. I reckon quite a few would be interested. Would only need to do the bars as we could get our own rose joints.

Yeah thats how it should be done, but l/h tap sets cost money and theres plenty of rh taps at work, im sure you will have some at yours tho Wink
Mine is done the right way, bought them years ago but my alignment bloke still uses the cam bolts coz the arms are just way to sensitive, im guessing its coz of the thread, if you could find a qaulity m12 fine thread rose joint it might help but I dont think they do them
Duno bout doin a batch, doub theres anyone that will want them, I can do a set for you if you want but it will be the cheap way, if I can find some good heavy gauge tube I can weld a lh and rh nut on so you do have the adjustmet, but like I said its trick to adjust

Good job I kept a std arm handy
Its about 420 centres, so say take a couple of inches off for the rose joints and lock nuts and your lookin about 370 overall

Cheers Gary.
I really should learn to be more patient! Just went down to the garage and crawled around under the car with a tape measure! Came up and seen your reply Razz

Yeah, i got about 425mm centre of nut to nut so 370/75mm sounds about right.
Will get onto Mcgill tomorrow.

However.....just seen thesehttp://mcgillmotorsports.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=231

Would these be any good for you to make up a set? I know you said left hand threaded were expensive but these seem pretty cheap.
What ya reckon?

£125 for those ebay jobs Laughing
I think mine was 70, but the rodends were pretty shit and I wasnt using any boots so they died quickly

Can, they are 1/2 inch mate, thats 12.7 mm, usualy the thread is the same as the bore size of the rodend, 12mm is the perfect fit so it will be an m12 thread in a ali bar or welded nut in a thick gauge tube, I found a perfect bit today but only enough to do 1 bar
If I can find a nice bit of ali bar and put a rh 12 thread in each end then you can sort out the rod ends and nuts, I think thatl b the cheapest way or if you really want, you can probget small bits of the right type of tube on ebay, get
some r+l/h nuts and rose joints an il weld them up for you

Thanks Gary. How much would you want for to make a set up for me?

Also i just got off the phone to Mcgill. Nice bloke i spoke to. Didnt outright flat say no way to having the right size made up but said the boss would give me a call tommorrow. When i mentioned a possable group buy he seemed keen but like i say, all depends what the boss says!
So if they could make a 370mm bar who would be interested?

I checked mine when I got home, good job I did, the main bars are 340 Very Happy
If you get all the bits sent to me il weld them up for a tenner
A decent set of rodends and boots will be about 40
Nuts a few quid, I should have some 12 nuts at work so you will just have to get the lh nuts, the tube might be 10 each, I can get the right size tube but it will be 6m length so unless theres enough call for them it will cost to much
Then you will need some spacers, if you can get the bits of tube out of the rubber in th std arms you can cut them down to stop the arms moving, failing that you could use some rubber bushes like there is on the arb drop links

Iv.got a couple more options
I was lookin at the mcgill site on ebay, just type in turnbuckle m12, they do a 380-410, weld on some extra nuts, put the cam bolts to max and youv got up to 435ish
But they also do a 450-490, ask them how deep the thread goes, if its a good couple of inches, chop them down , sorted

i asked them that and he wasnt very helpful, i think the reply was;

im not sure, if you purchase them you will find out, and its only a drill and tap anyway.

The attitude of that person put me off lol

Thats a shame mate and strange!
I got a call from them yesterday and the fella was really helpfull.
Said that if we could get enough interest then they could get other lengths ordered. They get them in from America. I was hoping that they made them in-house which would have been easier for custom stuff but no joy!
Only problem is that he said that about 30 sets would need to be ordered and I dought we could get that much interest? Crying or Very sad

Just goes to show how good people skills/customer service can affect your opinion of a company!

So unless we can get 28 others interested then I guess it's gonna have to be a DIY job!

310-340 link, with 1 male rod end, and a female the other end with a piece of threaded bar connecting the rod end and the linkage, extendable to what u want then....?

is they any reason that couldn't be done?
