PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
Hi all, sorry for the lack of updates on my project(s)... i will run you by briefly whats happened and happening....
I sold my justy as well as my turbo kit for my swift gti... Reason for this was mainly lack of funds and the constant maintanance as i am an in-experienced mechanic myself..
As some of you are aware i own a mark 2 phase one Swift Gti and previously it had a nice basic setup achieving 125bhp with a janspeed exhaust, 4branch, dastek uni chip, koni's all round, polybushed all round etc etc... I wanted to gain more power without getting silly in terms of cost and work needed doing... i got some advice from my friend and he helped me to rebuild my engine as it was starting to sound ropey and was giving idications the head gasket needed a change. We rebuilt the engine and had head skimmed. My friend also advised me to get some samco hoses, some PIPER ultimate road cams and some adjustable cam gears so i did. My friend and i did all the set up properly got the timing as close as we could with a timing gun i then took it to a garage to get my dastek unichip tuned and all set up for the new cams, cam gears etc.... THIS IS WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG! Long story short the garage i went to were a bunch of cowboys 3 months later and daily excuses i am further behind than i was when i went in there i am £400 down,if they had had it there way i would have payed alot more!!! I have nothing to show for it and in a dispute they purposely threw the timing out just before i collected my car as a final insult!! Not only that without asking me they removed my uni-chip without my consent so i am stuck with no money, a broken car, no ecu and no clue as to what to do next. My friend (my saviour) has offered to bring his dial guages up in the hope that it is a simple timing issue but i am worried it is worse... just wanted a bit of advice because there are so many talented swift owners on here! I also have a stage 2 rally emprom chip which i am wondering whether is worth fitting for the time being till i can afford to rectify my mistakes. I never thought i would be blind or niave enough to be the one being mugged off like this by a garage but i'v learnt the hard way like many others Any advice would be greatly aprreciated. thanks for your time

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
so whats actually wrong?
is there any mech damage?
i take it the unichip is a piggyback unit?
im sure you can sue for removing the dastek, considering it will cost a fair bit to get it re-wired
if your having trouble getting the cam timing right then get a factory manual
its on a couple of hosting sites around or you can get a cd from ebay or the original paperback

how do you know they've messed about with the timing before giving it back? its gonna idle like a bitch with those cams in anyway. Does it drive?

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
thanks for ur replies.. (except hobo)
the cams i have are piper ultimate road cams and the chip i have is a dastek piggyback unichip. The one i am thinking of replacing it with which i have had lying around for a while is the stage 2 emprom rally chip from cananda possible stedix? i believe this chip removes the rev limiter...
The reason i think the garage had messed with the timing is because it was aparently running perfectly that morning he even started her up in the background while i was on the phone. When i arrived and had the dispute where he tried springing 3 more hours labour at about £95p/h they put the shutters down with my car still inside he said fuck off for an hour and we'll chuck the car out the front cos there r alot of people pissed off with u in there. (he was the one that agreed no extra charges) I waited outside god knows what they did hopefully just messed with the timing slightly cos it was awful to drive home non existant idle and at points my foot was between half and full throttle with pretty much nothing happening until it hit cam. Its not gonna be driven again till my friend brings dial guages up sunday. As far as trying to sue them for removing the chip he made out it was shit (maybe it is?) and wasnt wired in properly-i know this part was untrue as it was fitted by a swift specialist at castle combe. Thanks for all ur advice

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
its good advice and you did ask for any advice, but has it got adjustable pulleys? because 1 or both of them could of been tampered with and that would make it back up until the cams comes maybe smoke and not idle properly and its a quick job to fuck about with them (which i should of done when i had a similar problem but such is life lol)

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
i just read back and you have in that case i would take the timing belt cover off see how the pulleys are set if they off 0 i would be inclinded to put them both back to 0 and see how it runs then

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
yeah if it didnt take them long too mess it up, it will be either the cam pulleys or the dizzy or both. Its a very quick and easy job to sort out, put both cam pulleys to 0, or for more torque advance the inlet cam a few degrees, and check the dizzy is somewhere in the middle, your'll see if its way off or not.

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
you could mess with the dizzy all day, but it wont do jack unless you earth the plug in the engine bay
how come you went to that particular garage?
is it an official dastek dealer?

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
Hi, thanks again for all your help. in answer to the questions-
The reason i went to this particular garage is--- the garage i was going to go to (that had a good rep)said there was a 3 week wait to b booked in and i heard someone was leaving that garage and joining a local company 2 minutes away from my house...Rung him and he said he dealt with dasteks so wanting to get the job done quickly i went ahead. Wont b making that mistake again!
The engine is definately earthed correctly, today we had a good play around and we have had it running much better. We are leaving the dastek out for now and we first reset everything to 0 then moved it a few degrees either way. We think they messed with the dizzy but my friend also mentioned wanting to check the sensor round the back of the engine. The check engine light was on and off but after our tweaking it has stayed off. We are getting a volt meter to continue but things are sounding and feeling alot better. Its idling just right feels much, much smoother and has more throttle response in the lower revs now. laking a bit of power but its starting to feel like it used to. Ill keep you all updated but im thinking of putting the emprom chip in after i have the mot passed (kept failing emissions) Thanks, Tom

progress...
Hi all, so far so good... We have the timing almost spot on now she is idling and doesnt struggle as much low rpm now. Were currently waiting for my new ally rad from china which should be here in 2 more days.
I've also purchased a stage 2 ssgti chip and a set of rear hubs to do the koni inserts into. I am aware the stage 2 chip (emprom i think it is) has a removed red line? If thats true am i best getting a rev limiter like this omex one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OMEX-Single-Coil-Rev-Limiter-Launch-Control-NEW-/290504705895?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a36e0767#ht_500wt_1043 Also do any of you know of anyone i can pay thats capable of soldering a socketing kit to my ecu?? (or just the chip to my ecu) thanks, Tom

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
the rear koni's have been a pain in the arse to fit, the fronts went in fine they may have even been the wrong rears but koni wouldnt take them back so were gonna give them to someone to get some machine work done to fit them with the hubs detached as this will make life alot easier. I payed £100 delivered 4-5 day delivery from china! awsome price for a new rad. without delivery is only £30!! i've messaged garndi about chips etc, thank you! Tom

no tax yet, unless he sent it as a gift you will get taxed mate, that`l be another £30 inc the pathetic parcel force release fee
iv imported to much stuff from abroad, added it all up a few months ago
over 1000 just on tax
that is spread over 10 years though

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
dun a bit of digging on 163.com
found this
guessing its the same
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/284729463/Aluminum_radiator_for_SUZUKI_SWIFT_GTI.html
also has a list of other cars near the bottom, hopefully it fits all of them aswell
looks more like a civic rad to me, as the hose fittings are in the wrong place

Re: PLEASE HELP ADVICE REBUILD/ECU/TUNING/TIMING!
Hi, the rad looks good, the fittings are in the right place and it looks like the right size. i will be fitting it later today or tomorrow so i will let you know how i get on and try and get pics. Through the ebay international site the minimum is 20 but if you search on ebay uk for swift gti radiator then you should be able to find it listed in the international section that comes up at the bottom of the page and you can order just 1 contact him tho and mention my name hopefully he will do you a deal as he did me. He must have sent it as a gift as i payed no import tax!! not only that it came 4-5 days after ordering it-it arrived before my uk purchases during the snow! the build quality and look of the rad is also decent for the price. thanks, Tom
