Re: Replacing front bearings
its not easy, if you dont have access to a press then i think you need to find someone that can fit them for you

Re: Replacing front bearings
Hi,
You can just use a brass rod to drift it out.
Then you can start fitting bearings.
Do you have a vice?
If you have it, you can use it to press it in like using press.
I hope you can do it. It is very easy to do. For mk1 Gti, it says using a hammer and a brass rod to dirft it out even in a Suzuki service manual. Try using a rubber/plastic head mallet for fitting bearings.
Cheers

Re: Replacing front bearings
Strugling getting old bearings out
thats how my hubs look minus discs and rings/seals at the back...
what should i do now?
as i undestand the knuckle (i think thats what it is called) should be seperate to the hub itself? so i should have to parts and now one like they are now?

Re: Replacing front bearings
mate if you dad can press them in then he can get them out aswell
if not then you need a bit of scafold or something close and a fcukin big hammer
just dont use it when you go to fit the new set

Re: Replacing front bearings
So managed to get it apart..
Now few more questions.
Do these balls have to come out?
That's what i got off so far + C clips
thats the ebay bearing kit, that looks completely different to the one i have...will it still fit?
thanks!

Re: Replacing front bearings
that was the easy bit
in the 1st pic there should be a smooth bore the same size as the new bearing to fit
if it isnt then you got some work to to
the 2nd is the main hub, the bearing race is still on there so that will need cutting off
i tryed heating it chiseling it but the best way is to use a very thin cutting disc and cut the race whilst trying not to cut the hub, you dont have to go all the way down then split it with a fat screw driver or something like that
what dus the bearing set you have look like then?

Re: Replacing front bearings
Yes mate. Those ball bearings have to come out.
The pic of the new bearing is right. If you buy it you can have a look at what its supposed to look like.
Take the remaining parts of the old bearing, which has come apart, out of the knuckle. So you should end up with a clean cylinder for the new bearing to be pressed into. Then the c-clip slots into place. By the way, the c-clip that came with my bearing kit was smaller than the original so i used the old one.
Once the new bearing is securly in place in the knuckle, press the hub into the bearing. Dont forget the black rubber seal at this stage! Goes between knuckle and hub.
Remember to use loads of bearing grease at every stage.
If you get the new bearing and look at it with the completly stripped/clean knuckle and hub it should make more sense.
Good luck
