Re: vitara pistons
vitara pistons are for running low compression 7,4 to 1 roughly they are in 16v g16 engines form a vitara lol

ideal do i need to do anything else like o ring the bloke or can you just use them wat sort of boost can you run with vitara pistons

Re: vitara pistons
you need to rebore the block pistons are 75mm so may aswell rebuild at the same time they will take as much boost as ya like

Re: vitara pistons
Hi,
You will find that pistons are OK but your con-rods will be a weakest link.
Honda boys are using Vitara psitons and going ober 600+Bhp@wheels.
Even Taiwanese made(Japanese maker), cheap ones are making above power not OEM Suzuki pistons.
Andy and Jerry has O-ringed their block so that it will be safe in any boost.
I remember 25 psi boost come to my mind.
You will need to spend £800 ish for block only for above mod. then you want to add billet after market con-rods(£300-ish)
ARP bolts for the head as well as con-rods.
Cheers

Re: vitara pistons
If you need your block o'ringed for a Vitara piston engine I can offer the service.
Located North London.
£80
The most that I have run on Vitara pistons is 30psi with 100HP shot of Nitrous.
There are a few different types/CR ratio of Vitara pistons out there.
You can also use the Jimny piston if you want a bit lower CR on a 74mm bore.

Re: vitara pistons
I got a few questions regarding using vitara pistons in G13B...
Firstly, where do i get some?
What is rough cost for a set of new ones?
Do i use Vitara piston rings and standard GTi big and small ends?
What is perfomance of the car will be like without turbo? can i expect it to be around 100 bhp as standard? thing is i dont plan to go turbo till after my 21bday, next year, but want to rebuild the engine before i put it in...

Re: vitara pistons
where, suzuki, ebay?
ask around for best price
well it will have to be vitara piston rings u cant use the gti rings can u lol, and wud imagine its standard bearings
well i doubt it wud be 100bhp as the compression wud be dropped

Re: vitara pistons
I've got a g16b Baleno engine lying around. Are they the same pistons? Its a 16v and will save me a bit of £ instead of buying them new.

Re: vitara pistons
the compression on a 1.6 baleno 9:1
but the stroke is longer on a 1.6 engine, and the bore is 75mm.
a Cleverer man than me could probably work out wot the compression wud be with baleno pistons in the gti engine. but i dont no if baleno and vitara pistons are the same.

Re: vitara pistons
just looked on wiki, and it shows a list of suzuki engines that were used in different cars, that sort of says baleno and vitara use the same engine, so probably same pistons.

Can anyone give me a 100% confirmation that these pistons are the same as I am opening a good engine to get them!

Just been reading this thread and just wanted to find out if i use the vitara pistons, do i use the g13b cords or do use the vitara conrods and if i use the vitara one will this work with g13b crank?

Re: vitara pistons
vitara pistons, gti rods and gti crank mate.
vitara pistons drop the compression pretty low, i had the block skimmed to give me 8.5-1~
i think jimny 16v pistons are worth a shot, from what iv read they will give 9-1 in the gti engine.

Cheers Ross,
That is a big help, without the block being skimmed, what sort of commpression will I get?
Cheers

Re: vitara pistons
Hi,
I have started to speak with a few people about this after I have started actual work.....
I have 2 engine projects. 1 is new liner and the other with a block guard.
This time, I have photos of block guard machining.
I have been told that, generic block guard is no good so I have designed 1 myself in a CAD and used same data to get my spare block machined to suit.
Here is my photo of the block.
Then, this is the photo of block guard itself. This is only 2 thou of 1" bigger than the actual gap it will fit into it.
I may have to drill more for water ways but I need to buy a Suzuki OEM head gasket which is multi layer steel ones....
So, it will be fitted after warming up the block and tapped in. Then face of the block will be machined to increase CR as using Vitara pistons only give 7.2:1 or something as low as that.
The block will be skimmed by 1mm as that is how much Gti and Vitara pistons are different by.
What do you think guys?
Cheers

Re: vitara pistons
Hi,
What do you mean no good?
Gti pistons are 0.95mm longer from the centre of the pin, so it will work. So it will gives better CR than 7.2:1 as we have worked out.
Anyway, here is a finished block!
As you can see, there is no gaps between a block guard & block itself!
Cheers

Re: vitara pistons
Hi,
Just to let you know Steve....
I had a spare 30 min today so I assembled piston and Gti con-rod to check my meassurement is correct.
I need to check TDC to make sure when I check, it is highest point piston will be.
Then, I need to check with a deck gauge to see if bolck and piston is same height or pistons to be lower than the block.
It seems.... piston and deck is same height. So it might work OK!
Cheers

Re: vitara pistons
Ross,
They are not same height!
If you fit vitara pistons in, it will be 0.95mm lower. So you will be running very low CR.
This is the reason why I skimmed 1mm off so that I get better CR than 7.2:1!
Cheers

i know there not the same mate i had the block decked/skimmed/milled so the vitara sat the same height as a gti piston from the top of the block, like you have done

Re: vitara pistons
Hey Ross,
What is your spec and Bhp you getting?
I'm building my engine and hoping to get better Bhp by using skimmed head to increase CR to 8.6:1.
I got Cultus Gti camshafts as well but not sure if I need that or not.
Cheers
