Re: box rebuild and pg diff
how much is the pg?
i was thinking about getting one for my spare box, sometimes the gripper is a bit overkill for the road

Hi,
I made PG copy before and gave it to Madzuki.
All you need is gauge plate 15mm plate and springs.
When you finish machining, you just send it to heat treatment to get 58HRc.
I might eve have some CAD left somewhere.
Iain was going to make one with bike clutch plate so that it will work better than PG.
PG as std is using metal to metal and it will create metal bits in your gearbox.
If you want to know more, let me know.
Cheers

Re: box rebuild and pg diff
Hi,
I looked for some of my CD back ups when I lived in Gloucester.
It's not there.... Still I can get hold of sizes block I need and springs.
I read some of post in Teamswift.
They don't like PG much. It works for while then stop working after while. This is down to metal to metal and grind off after many wheel spins.
If you are going to fit PG, you will need to surface grind spider gears. When I made mine, I worked in workshop so I did this when I had a free time as a training on the machine!
Madzuki was making a PG set up with bike clutch plate glued on to his spider gears.
I gave him my PG copy and mk2 Diff ready to fit as part payment for spares I bought from him.
If you are going to use this PG setup, make sure you fit magnet/s inside.
I will try to get hold of sizes and springs for anyone inetrested.
Cheers

Re: box rebuild and pg diff
you need to gring the diff casing aswell the box has a magnet in it as standard pg is only really for straight line the pg they use isent daves they used actual pg and yea they are poo dave uses much better springs unsure of rating though.

i guess its not as effective with alot of use, the hotter the planet gears get the less friction for the pg to work with

Hi,
I hope I don't get wrong with Iain posting his web link site up.
It is still in making or shall I say coming back up from long time ago.
So photo link might not work but you can see some of them.
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/madzuki/
This web site was actually backed up in teamswift sometime ago but Iain took it off. With my request for a long time, he finally gave in!
Anyway, in here you will see Phantom grip section.
He has real PG as well as the one I made!
There is an other type on the market with 4 more springs which put pressure to all gears. So spider gears(top and bottom) and planet gears(sides) are restricted by 4 steel blocks instead of 2 big blocks.
I think you will really need clutch material to give better friction than metal to metal.
Cheers

Re: box rebuild and pg diff
I've put a an original PG into my box. Have'nt really tested it as the car is still getting worked on. Am thinking of putting a bigger magnet on the drainage bolt as I am aware of what the metal to metal problem might cause. Does anyone know how long the magnet can protrude from the drainage bolt before being too long and touching the gears?
