get back to you on the colour of the plastic inserts, what colour should they be? Im pretty sure they're gti box's, Ive bought gti parts from him before and they were used on the one he stripped.

As the gears only crunch when you engage them im unsure how turning it over by hand will tell you which one it the good one. When you change gear the shaft that meshes with the diff is rotating and the syncro grinds against the teeth before its engages with the gear, how can you replicate this?

Also why do the teeth wear anyway? Is it a selector problem or once they start to wear do the find it harder to engage?

Sorry to go a bit off the topic. But if using a non gti box is such an issue, what about when you use a justy box if you want t o do a turbo conversion?

the inserts should be a grayish sorta colour wiv ruber rings in the recess not white like the 8v box

the syncs are made of brass so they are very soft, they are designed this way

if your doing a proper justy/turbo conv then you will most likly have 200 odd hp so the longer ratios arnt so much of an issue

justy ratios are not as long as 8v ratios for long ratios on the awd box you need the 16v sallon box

just had a good look at both the box's. The plastic inserts look black and have an o'ring inside each end. Ive turned them both over by hand and one as a lot less slack in the gears and feels nice and tight so Ill probably go with that one.

The ratio's in the box Im using now are not suited to the gti at all. It slows the car down a lot and ive noticed it drinks a lot more fuel because the engine has to work a lot harder at slow speeds unless you keep it very high in the revs.
Think im gonna replace the clutch this time, any one had any experience with the Exedy clutch on Ebay?
