Ive been down my m8s looking at his honda civic eg suspsension and found them to be very simular to the swift so i started comparing some parts and found on the back all i need is a 1mm sleve in the clamp cut the inner arch to clear the spring then re drill the bolt hole in the boot to fit the top hat (this making it fully ride height adjustable on the back as for the front i was thinking of makin a clamp arrangment and welding on 2 bits of flat to carry the bolt holes on the hub then at the top i will need to put a plate over the original holes and re drill the to suit the civic top hats, ive only had a relitavly brief look at the so far going to strip down further and double check a bit more when i get time has anyone else tried anything like this or found shocks and springs from any other car that fit (the lengths of the shocks are virtualy indentical and so are the weights of the cars)

it sounds like a good idea but all of the eg`s rear struts iv seen has a pivot point on the end of them, can you get sum picks up?
as for the front, make sure that you can take the insert out of the strut when your welding in the plates, get some proper top mounts made with the pillow bearing, you can get the bolt holes just right and i think they can even put some camber built in if you want, they will realy bring the steering to life, belive me

an eg is a good 100kg heavyer than a swift, but with the proper adjust coil overs you can change spring rates anyway

200sx coilovers fit the front just need to elongate the bottom hole as for rear coilovers i wouldent move the load point around personally. you can still have height adjustment on the rear via these coilover spring things. what the spring sits on basically they use them on a variety of cars lots of big stuff aswell

Laughing
they look ok, but trust the yanks to come up with something like that
i could make some of them easy, and it wouldnt cost that much either
the only thing is that you will have to cut and weld on some sturdy plates to the chassis and susp arm to accept them

yer they do have a fork type fitting but i was going to cut this off and then itl will fit into the clamp design on the swift with a 1mm sleve around and the spring cup piece will sit i a perfect place to replicate the stop on the swift shocks for the clamp, had a bit more of a look today and on the back i think ill have to cut the plate of the top in the boot and weld a new one in to mount the bolt holes to give the spring clearance, as for the front i was hoping to avoid welding on the shock its self i was think of something along the lines of a piece of pipe with to plates welded on and then making that clamp the shock in the same way the rears do now the main but im nt to sure of atm was the top mounts on the front i was thinking today of making a plate with 3 studs to fix to the swift chasis and then two slots in it for the civic top mount to fix two and then slide up or down the slots adjusting the camber or will i need a proper pillow mount to do this and id hav to cut a but on the swift orignal centre hole out to make room for the slots etc.

As for the spring adjusters on the back for the mustang after looking at them im wondering if they lower the swift much due to chasis design as the spring on a swift sit flat on the wish bone and the chasis so wen u weld that plate on etc the lowest point would be standard height unless u got shorter springs but would you get springs short enough?

Ill get some pics over the weekend and post up

ive got home made coilovers o the front not heavy at all lighter than stock for the rear i would cut the middle bump out of the wishbone then weld in a plate you can get like 5" springs even less i think

i do like the sound of using a rear civic damper, coz so many people get sucked in to the whole vtec thing theres so much choice compared to the swift

so if you want to use a 1mm shim is the body of the eg damper 2mm smaller than the swifts at the bottom?
what is the length of the eg dampers with the fork cut off?

the clamp thing your thinking of is just dangerous, it will work, but you will need to weld the clamp to the strut or make some cover plates and weld them to the existing plates and drill new holes
or you can mod the std struts to take the koni insert and weld on the coilover sleaves, job done
either way your gona have to weld at some point Very Happy

hi
it looks good, but i think you should beef up the bolt area of the strut collar
maybe weld on 2 thick lugs on instead of just the nuts
they will be quite brittle from the heat of the weld, i wouldnt trust it personally mate

cheers, do you mean on the back yer - i was thinking when it all goes onto my actual car i was going to replace the bits of chasis that i have been cut off with sheet metal like the original bits but just bit bigger to clear the new parts if that makes sence im not to sure how to explain what i mean, and on the front camber plate the studs are counter sink bolts sunk in and the welded to stop them turning when tightend cheers for the feed back tho
