Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
ive just done the cam upgrade, this is just the next step, im only going to 49mm, if i was fitting the 60mm TB then id agree with you. In my opinion, the stock TB and MAF restrict the power, so im just derestricting it

cams?
If u alter or have different cams in, does this affect the way it hits the rev limiter?
Bigger or smaller pauses imbetween redline?

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
tbh all this larger bore t/b bollox is realy just bollox, only bother with it if your goin turbo and using the std intake
if you using n/a with a mild setup you wont see much of a gain so like atchi said put the cash towards a set of usable cams and chip they are the one thing that will transform a n/a engine
i got my t/b when i was young and stupid, buying everything i could see
if i started all over again knowing what i know now i wouldnt buy most of the crap i have done over the years
and probabally be richer for it
gary

Hi Gary,
Give her a breakfast in a Bed and tell her I'm going to work for 2 hrs.
On way back by her flowers! I pay for them. I owe you that much!
I will get 10mm laser cut for you soon. I will ask Andy to get hold of billet if he can.
Cheers

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
ive been modding these cars for years and i dont think its bollocks. Just take off the MAF and look at how small the hole is and you will know its worth doing.
But only do it if you can do it cheap because the gain clearly won't be massive

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
i get your point steve iv done the conv myself years ago, if you know the right people you could get all the parts/machining for free, then it isnt bollox
but most people that come into swift ownership will see the conv on the websites buy it all off srd or any of the other ripoff merchants and think yeah im getting a larger t/b, sounds great down the pub, wack it on a nearly std engine and then realise they`v wasted 150 odd quid for 2/3hp
thats halfway to a quality set of cams
its the sort of thing you should do if your goin full on n/a, you need more air in but you cant afford itb/carbs
or like i said before with turbo app
atchi, i dont think she`l fall for that one mate, im gona do it anyway, but if i get caught sneeking out im blaming you

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
Thanks for that Gary,
I was speaking to Andy(Swiftmtotrsports) today.
He went almost all the way with NA.
He is geeting 155bhp with air filter 160 without.
Bill can build 200bhp out of 1397cc using 77mm pistons, Janvy(I don't remeber correct spelling) TBs. But this is proper full race engine. You will need to rebuild every year to make sure it is OK.
I will get cylinder head modified, skimmed to increase CR.
Boring out std TB and inlet manifold will be good if you have better cam shafts. Then camshafts will work better if you use 4-2-1 manifold.....
It is like a domino effect. You need to keep going until you are happy with it.
Don't get me wrong boys, it is very good what you are doing. I have read so many book about NA tuning and so on. I will be doing turbo tuning next!
Cheers

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
well i've fitted the bored 49mm MAF and it now runs bad and has lost power, someone has told me that you need to bore out the sample hole aswell so the ecu gets the correct reading, is this true and what size does the sample hole need to be?

Hi,
If you read above post by Gary, you will see it.
What ever % increase to TH bore, you will need to do same to a sample hole.
Cheers

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
i've tried drilling the sample hole out to 9mm, made no difference. The sensor measures air speed yes? so if theres more air going through, you will need the sample hole to be smaller to speed the air up right?

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
it messures the air mass, the amount of air passing through not the speed
i cant remember the oe bore, but say its 45, + 8% is 48.6, close enough
whatever the bore of the sensor than increase by 8% or whatever it works out as
thats the theory anyway, i got it close, it ran ok, but i didnt have an adjust fuel reg at the time so i couldnt be arsed to fcuk around with it, i just wacked on the oe maf and never tried it again, im defo going to have another go but iv got other things to do to her before i go down that road
but to get it just right i think a standalone system is needed

Re: WANTED: MAF Meter
you see what i mean by bollox now, alot of work for near-on no gains and a headache at the end of it
iv already got 3, 1 oe and 2 bored, one with a modifyed sensor hole and a fresh one
