custom drive shafts
Af the last rally I turned the gearbox into scrap and after lots of head scratching, sharpening of pencils, advice and comments from others and beating a calculator to bits I am going ahead with the Vauxhall gearbox conversion.
The Vauxhall box can be upgraded over time to close ratio and dog box style with all parts available here in UK.
If I went with a dog box for the Suzuki casing then so far all the parts come rfrom over the channel or nz/oz and when it comes to needing parts its more expence and time.
So in a nut shell wh does custom made drive shafts? They guy I was going to use no longer is available. I would prefer someone in the Hampshire area but I can travel if need be.
But if someone had a dog box for sale at a reasonable price for a swift I would consider it.
Cheers
Brian

Hi B,
I think Kforkevin might have Nova box in his Import Cultus.
I think asking forum in Ireland will be best as half of Nova production were over there.
Driveshaft wise, you can make by cut & shut. Then send what you need to driveshaft maker in UK.
I know people in Europe, if you can't find any one.
Cheers

Also just found a company in Czech republic that do dog box. Works out at £1500. Ideally I would like to veep ut all Suzuki. I will get my wife's Czech friend to send them an email to find out if its mk1 or 2 box. If its for a mk2 I presume I will have to only change to cable gear shift and hydraulic clutch

Mk1 or 2 box. If its 2 which I reckon it will be then I may as well go and change the set up in the car to suit with regards to clutch and shifter

Re: custom drive shafts
Those ratios are quite long brian, I would get on a ratio calc to see what cwp is best for you, I would be a bit concerned with the price, you get what you pay for and all that
Mk2 box uses shift shaft and normal cable clutch similar yo mk1 so there wont be much to change

Re: custom drive shafts
I will check it against the ratio chart for the box I have in the car now. Now I am getting confused. My box in the car uses cable clutch and a shift rod. I thought mk2 was hydraulic clutch and cable shift. Where are my headache pills

Re: custom drive shafts
Later baleno boxes use hyd/ cable shift, but you can then fit ignis/swift sport gearset, and as they still make them, suzukisport will have a comp gearset and diff so plenty of options

Hi B,
1600 AWD Swift GTi saloon did have hydro and cable shifts.
I wouldn't worry about Czech quality, their price might be cheap to us but may be very expensive over there.
It's just exchange rate working a trick to you.
Up until 70-80s, they were one of technically advanced country. Just left behind due to communists.
Some of the piller drill was made in Czech and are very good quality.
Cheers

Re: custom drive shafts
Oh, if you are using mk2 gearbox, you will have an issue with gearbox mount as mk1 has 1 under the gearbox.
Mk2 will have mounting brakets in front and you may need to mod front chassis.

Re: custom drive shafts
Here is what is in the box now as far as ratios go
1st 3.071
2.056
1.546
1.240
1.037
4.6 final drive
This is the gripper kit which I understand they won't be doing anymore of.
Also these might not be in the car if those monkeys who I got the car from changed the box. With a bit of luck I will know more next weekend.

Re: custom drive shafts
I have pictures of Mk2 box fitted into a Mk1. Let me know if you need them.
Gear selector and clutch cable are the same as Mk1. So are the drives.

Dara

Even Mad Andy thought Dara is crazy! He has mk1 Gti rally car with Bill's engine, too.
Ask Dara for his no how.
