is the vin in the engine bay the only number stamped to the shell?
i cant see any other numbers anywhere
if it is then i might have a cunning plan for my reshell

long way off yet mind, just thought id look into it all before i get to far
im still un decided on what im doing with it tho, im defo putting on all the gti aero parts etc, but i dont know if im gona keep it road legal or go full on lightwight track toy, if so im aiming for sub 700kg

Re: vin number
You dont want non factory weld anywhere near a vin number, best replace entire panel section at factory join lines, bigger job but better than having the car taken and crushed...if your rego/licensing department is as harsh as where i grew up

Re: vin number
thats exacty what i was thinking gtp, the pannel the vin is on is small in hight but the width of the engine bay
theres a flange with spotwelds just under the number, so i can cut it there and make good around the top and sides
im doing alot of fabrication work to the chassis so this will be a drop in the well tbh
yunik, as the chassis is quite a thin gauge metal so any welding around the number will warp the pannel and a tester will notice stright away
