Re: JDM
the emissions go by the engine, that garage dont know shit. Usually you need proof of what the engine is from but you can clearly see its from a gti so if you find yourself a friendly garage run by some good old school guys you shouldnt have a problem

Re: JDM
The garage is right.
It is to do with your Reg doc.
My mini is '68 Austin Mini Super Delux 998, but I got G13B in it.
So, my car is tax free as well as emission is not important.
If engine runs, brake works, all of the light is working and no sharp body panels with rust and so on. I will get MOT and cheaper insurance as well due to a classic car status.
This is why I got this mk2 Mini!
Good luck and enjoy building your car.
Cheers

Re: JDM
Defo goes against the chassis, my 1st gti was aug 92 so it was literaly one of the 1st gtis that had to have cat fitted, the testers always used to point it out if it was regestered one day younger then I wouldnt need a cat
Not to sure on rules for modern cars but thems is the rules for cars from the gtis time
The only point I will make is theres no swift gti on the official emmisions charts so theoreticaly a gti only needs a pre cat test
A normal gls is on the list as it was more common
Personaly iv got a couple of mates that are testers now so aslong as I dont take it there with some lairy cams fitted their boss dosent even notice

Re: JDM
I had mot done and car is now on the road
I cant belive how much faster it feels from a standard GTi it feels like it has wayyyyy more torque now, Cant wait to get cams next!
so far the engine mods are
Cultus pistons 11.5.1 cr
15 thou head skim
cultus intake manifold
janspeed 4-1 exhaust manifold
srd single underdrive pulley
metal air intake with after market air filter
seriously was to get some ITB's and motec ecu
Just cant make my mind up wether to get piper fast road cams or the ultimate road cams

just worried the duration would be to much and make valves smash into pistons

Re: JDM
jesse,
140-150 non turbo from a G13 is quite an ask. from te factory they are nicely tuned so getting there requires serious work to the engine. dont worry about individual parts, get talking to engine builders about the whole package that figure is not going to be bolt together of collected parts.
And it could be a waste of money to just collect missmatched parts and bolt to an existing condition engine.
You know Im right

I will try, once I get cams and a chip want to go for a dyno run up by castle combe but once I get ITB's and motec ecu sorted thats proberly when I will see bigger gains in power

Re: JDM
Hi,
I think you will need to have over sized pistons with high CR with port and polished head.
If you go Ultimate cam, it might sound good but no low down torque so you won't like it. In some cases, you might need to have solid lifters with stronger valve springs so you can rev to power band rev range.
You will need to have ITBs with aftermarket ECU with a lot of RR time. My mate Andy(Swiftmotorsports) built such an engine for his rally car. Don't ask him how much it cost him to build such an engine. Similar spec engine built by Bill Falkner is £5-6k.
I hope you get gearbox sorted.
ITBs wise, Gary or O can make it for you. We have knowledge to do so now!
Cheers

Re: JDM
Im proberly just going to go with the fast road, Its 1.1mm more lift than stock so it should make a bit of a difference dont know if the duration is any longer, i cant find the spec for stock cams anywhere
was looking at catcams but im unsure what to do, I used to have some cams in my old phase 1 that had no bottom end power what so ever and i hated it, they didnt kick in till about 4500 no idea what spec they were though.
Only really a road car, I just like to show up newer bigger cars in it
