Wheels...
As i work with wheels all day i thought i would share something which would shed a bit of light..
tyres come in metric sizes (195/50/15)
25.45mm to an inch
so...
13" = 330.85mm
14" = 356.30mm
15" = 381.75mm
16" = 407.20mm
17" = 432.65mm (if anyone goes past a 16" on a swift = tut tut)
18" = 458.10mm
19" = 483.55mm
right so theres your usual sizes converted from inch to mm.
next bit is rolling diameters of different tyre sizes of different size wheels:
13":
155/70 = 54.250mm = 385.100mm(15.13")
185/60 = 55.500mm = 386.350mm(15.18")
14"
185/55 = 50.875mm = 407.175mm(15.99")
195/50 = 48.750mm = 405.050mm(15.92")
195/45 = 43.875mm = 400.175mm(15.72")
15"
195/50 = 48.750mm = 430.500mm(16.91")
195/45 = 43.875mm = 425.625mm(16.72")
16"
195/45 = 43.875mm = 451.075mm(17.72")
205/40 = 41.000mm = 448.200mm(17.61")
195/40 = 39.000mm = 446.200mm(17.53")
17"
205/40 = 41.000mm = 473.650mm(18.61")
18"
215/35 = 37.625mm = 495.725mm(19.48")
19"
215/35 = 37.625mm = 521.175mm(20.48")

Okay. Lets test your knowledge on wheels.
I've got a mk2ph2 swift gti. I've bought 15" alloys with an offset of 32. I'm planning on putting 195/15/45 tyres on the wheels. Will these fit OK without modding the arches? I know the swift is meant to have an offset of 45. Can you tell me what problems I might face using wheels of an incorrect offset.

Re: Wheels...
Since I'm folding my arches there should'nt be a problem right? And what advantage will I get using 50 profile, does'nt that give it more chance to rub?

Re: Wheels...
i think he means on the inner arches mate
i have that problem wiv my r888`s but they are 205 50 15
you can beat the inner arch in a bit with a mallet but on the nearside part of the bulkhead is behind the arch so you wont get much clearance on that side
gary

Re: Wheels...
50 is a low profile as it is 45s are way too low you need the flex to get traction by the time you get konis springs poly bushes struts etc it will be too stiff on 45s

Because I'm only going to have 195's does that mean I won't have to beat in the arches? I really don't want to do that as I have just fully resprayed the underneath.

Re: Wheels...
my 195 50 15 road tyres rub slightly on full lock, but thats only because of the offset and also becuse of the hidden bulkhead, drivers side clears just fine
you could get some wheels that has enough offset to clear the inner arch but it will mess up the handling of the car, its a visious circle realy
if you use a good nylon/wood mallet it wont effect the paint work on the inner the arch, but if you also have to roll the arches then that will
im surprized your sprayer didnt ask if you wanted the arches rolled before he sprayed it

Re: Wheels...
Ok. If its going to rub on the inner part, what if I have 195/15/50, and put a 5mm spacer with my arches folded. Will it clear the arch and the inside of the car? By the way, what is the maximum size spacer you can use on standard bolts before it becomes too dangerous and you do not have enough thread left?

Re: Wheels...
i think you will be lucky to get a 5mm spacer on there im running 195/50/15 on a r888 and they dont rub its all about the suspension

Re: Wheels...
yeah, i did forget to say that im using 1.7 deg camber and 4.5 deg of castor
the amount of spacer you can use all depends on how deep the holes are in the alloy wheel

Re: Wheels...
as dominator said th thickness of the wheel needs to be taken into account there are too many factors that need to be looked at before you can achieve a yes or no style aswer

Re: Wheels...
I had 14" on mine and they looked brilliant with a 60 profile. I've still got them if your interested in buying them. They're old skool 5 spoke rimstocks.

Re: Wheels...
how wide are they? what do they weigh with the tyre on? do you have a pic?
60 profile is too big though in my opinion

Re: Wheels...
I can't remember the full specs of the wheel and they are on my vehicle at the moment until I put my new ones on. There is a pic with of my car with the wheels on in the introduce yourself section. In that pis the car is lowered 40mm and the wheels have a 60 profile.
