Covid track swift
This is the build thread of my gls turned gti
Iv had the car for years, had it as my daily for a while then lent it to my sister as she was desperate for a car, once i got it back i started on the build.
Obv first thing was to get the 3cyl and interior out.
It took a while due to time (kids) and other cars i had (evo 4) and after that it just sat there until the 1st covid lockdown, i was furloughed so i took that as the chance to get things done.
In the 4 months i was off i welded in the cage mounts, bolted the cage in and added some braces around the A and B pillars.
I also welded in some seat brackets and a new steering column bracket, i couldve kept the gls column but i wanted the adjustability of the gti unit.
After that i cracked on the the rust treatment, tbf it wasnt that bad, the only bit of welding i had to do was by the rear jacking points and on one of the front inner arces, the rest was either surface rust or it was just starting to eat away, after many weeks under the thing with a wire wheel on a grinder i got it all back to metal and used rust converter on all of the rusty bits, the slapped a few coats of red oxide primer everywhere that needed it its not the prettiest of jobs, but it did the job.
I then de rustef and hammerited all of the susp parts that needed it.
Luckily i had be refurbing parts over the yrs so all of the calipers and mastercyl were done and ready to go on.
Refurbed my original gti fuel tank and fitted the best set of fuel/brake hard pipes i had.
Brand new bearings on the front hubs along with new pads all round.
After that i got on with the interior, or lack of it, i re wrapped the best bit of loom i had and thats about it so far.
I managed to track down the dash fro my very first gti i sold a few yrs back so thats the next job after im done with the evo engine
Il get all the pics iv got up once i figure out how to load straight to the forum.
Until then theres a few pics on my instas

Re: Covid track swift
My rally car is in New Zealand now.
My son originally bought it, but then an ex-works Nissan Sunny GTi 2.0 kitcar appeared at a very sensible price so the Swift was sold to buy it.
I've sort of got sensible with my cars now as I get my fix working on the Sunny, now got one of the last Supercharged Audi S4's with a stage 1 map, quiet, comfy, kin quick and fantastic grip. Won't be getting rid anytime soon.

Re: Covid track swift
Bet its good to know the swift is being used as intended and not in the hands of the McDonald's mafia
Yeah iv seen chris's sunny, great looking car
My other toy is an old evo 4, imported a few yrs ago, strictly a road car so its not too crazy, just a bit more boost, brakes and dampers, and iv got a crappy old honda i use in the winter so the evo doesn't rust away
