dummy assemble the bottom end and measure your protuberance. then determine actual lift and go from there. or assemble everything and use wax to determine actual clearance then work it out from there. usually get a skim or two from a head before its too much a problem.

thanks gtp but sorry mate were not all expert engine builders.
dose any1 no without being sarcastic the distance between the piston and the lift from std cams?
i want to make my compression higher without spending loads on pistons.

not calling anyone anything bad. the best way to do something is to do it properly. if your doing the assembly you can do the measuring. and with old engines you need to do it to ensure you have the right clearances. its also a cheap way, only costing time, to check what you have an make correct decisions accordingly. Id guess you could take 0.5mm of the head before the valve seats needed attention. how this amount affects the valve piston clearance I don't know

well i found out std cams have a 7.55/7.55mm lift and catcams do a cam with a 10mm lift and on the chart is collem parts says oem same as the std cams. so hopefully that means id be able to take 1mm off without making a problem???

What gtp said, plus, if your doing a full build check out ebay for 2nd hand mics and bore gauges, verniers are cheap as brand new
If you want a reliable engine and your doing it yourself you will need some
The only way to get some handy comp ratio is from pistons you might get .5 extra from a full skim but if you need to skim again for any reason the heads fckd coz there aint any left

I know mate, its a big comitment
I was lucky, I got all of my main parts from abroad just before the crash, $2-£1 back then
I do have some 2nd hand cultus pistons if your interested, the engine ran 116 hp and 105 lb just before I pulled it for my built engine
It just had a filter, full 2"ex, 4-2-1 ex mani, and the pistons
Pm me if your interested
