SR20 TB
I know this topic has been gone over but I still need some help. Firstly, what size should the TB be? I just bought an SR20 TB and it has a 60mm opening. Is this too big, as I will be boring out my cultus manifold and there will be no going back. Also the SR20 TB does'nt have the bypass adjustable bit that the swift one does, is this OK? What size should I bore the AFM to? Some say 49mm some say 55mm?

Re: SR20 TB
Sr20 came in different sizes, depends what car/ power it was in
You cant go past 49 bore in the maf or it will fcuk the casing
Personaly I wouldnt bother, unless you are using a standalone or piggy back you will never get it right, if your gona do it get a spare maf housing coz you will be changing it back
I take it youv moded the fuel rail for adjust fpr?

Got loads of spare MAF housings, and I'm planning to do the fuel rail, AFPR all together with this install.
Any other opinions, or shall I just go with 49mm MAF housing and bore my cultus manifold to 60mm?

Re: SR20 TB
So everyone is agreed to the 49mm maf housing right?
And nothing can go wrong with boring my manifold to 60mm? I'm just shitting myself a bit as the manifold is a cultus one and I spent bucks to get it. If I get some reassurence from you experts, than lets do it!!!!!!

Re: SR20 TB
I did my maf 48.5 just to be sure
Boring out the tb hole to 60 will be fine, when I got my cultus mani some cowboy had bored it out to 55 and chamfered the edge with a file to make it up to 60 glad I got it cheap
Luckly I can weld ali so I sorted that out

Re: SR20 TB
Unless anyone's got any objections looks like I've got the all clear.
Just one more thing, do I just follow the standard procedure for adjusting the TPS as I do for the original TB or is there something else I should know in regards to this?

Re: SR20 TB
you will loose a bit of torque with the larger hole, that why I stuck with 52mm, best of both worlds
Im guessing its the same to sort the tps, aslong as your using the o/e part

Re: SR20 TB
But is'nt the point of the upgrade to gain torque? Will I loose torque even if I do the fuel rail and AFPR mod?

Re: SR20 TB
In theory theres no point goin past the bore dia of the maf, basicly the bigger the hole the better it is at the top end, but you loose mid torque, afpr is just to compesate the fueling cos the ecu will be confused about a different air speed, like I said you will never get it right, I got close but it just wasnt drivable enough around town im sure theres plenty of material on the tb bore size more/less power online

Re: SR20 TB
Could you please direct me to some more info? Also other swifters' experiences would help me to get a better idea of what I should do.

Re: SR20 TB
From what I've researched, unless you have some serious mods and big N/A power or go turbo, the 60mm is overkill.

Re: SR20 TB
What about if I use the 60mm TB and only bore out the manifold 52mm and the MAF housing 48.5mm. Would this be best all round? Would I still need to do the fuel rail and AFPR mod if I went this way?
I am looking to go turbo down the line and I'm assuming I wil need the full 60mm when I do, but for now I need the best for what I've got at the mo'.

Re: SR20 TB
If thats the case than leave it as it is for now, even if you do get it drivable you will loose torque and maybe only gain a few hp at the top end because its still std internals, if you want na its all about the comp ratio and cams, turbo is also comp ratio but make all holes bigger so you can force more in
Even if you do go with turbo I doubt the maf is needed anyway coz you will be using aftermarket ecu, and if your using andys turbo chip thats designed for std everything so all in all the whole maf/tb conv is a waste of time
Dont get me wrong, igot sucked into the same thing when I was younger, and if it actualy worked everyone would be using it now, theres more affective mods than this conv, and less of a headache aswell
